Probation is only temporary, but may be extended due to problems

As we discussed in our previous blog post, a crooked probation officer can make your time on probation seem impossible. Fortunately, most probationers won’t have to deal with dishonest probation officers. This doesn’t mean that you will be able to do what you want, even if that violates your probation terms. Instead, the probation officers who are over your case will have to do the job they are paid to do and ensure you are complying with the terms of your program.

We understand that things sometimes happen and you might end up facing a probation violation. These cases are very difficult because you don’t get to sit in front of a jury of your peers to plead your case. Instead, you have to sit directly in front of the judge who will decide whether you did violate the probation terms or not.

One thing to remember when you are on probation is that the terms of probation are only temporary. By complying with them, you will be able to say goodbye to the strict rules as soon as your probation is up. If you violate the terms of the probation, there is a good chance that you will have to remain on the program for longer or that you will have to face other penalties.

Make sure that you think carefully about each interaction you have with your probation officer. These individuals hold a lot of power and can use discretion when deciding how to handle certain circumstances. This is why it is always a better option to be on your probation officer’s good side instead of being deemed as a difficult probationer.
