Speeding has been a factor in about a third of all vehicle crash fatalities recorded for more than 20 years, and many of those who die are teens. Driving too fast endangers others. For one thing, there is the involvement of increased stopping distances, and you may not recognize or be able to avoid a potentially dangerous situation. In the event of a crash, excessive speed may reduce the effectiveness of the safety equipment in your vehicle.
Why speeding occurs
Speeding is a form of aggression. You may become frustrated by slow-moving traffic and accelerate to get around it. On the other hand, you may simply be running late for a class, an event or an appointment. Once again, as a teen, that feeling of invincibility comes into play, a belief that nothing bad will happen to you.

In the state of New Hampshire, your driving record may have demerit points for any number of reasons, including speeding, road racing and disobeying a police officer. The number of demerits depends on the severity of the offense, and the points you accumulate will remain on your record for at least the next three years. During that time, you may want to apply to college or get a job. Because of those demerit points on your record, you may run into roadblocks when pursuing your goals, causing you to wonder if speeding was worth the price.
