Felony assault charges require a vigorous criminal defense

Those here in Derry who either have faced felony assault charges themselves or know someone who has already understand that the penalties of a conviction can be serious. Anyone facing such charges should engage the assistance of criminal defense counsel as soon as possible. Without an understanding of the law, along with how the local court system works, attempting to deal with the charges alone could be disastrous.

For example, two men allege that two other men attacked them recently without provocation. The 24-year-old man and 23-year-old man report that they were out walking at approximately 1:50 a.m. when two other men approached them. They claim that the men knocked them down and began kicking and hitting them for no apparent reason.

One of the alleged victims claims that his money was stolen and his cell phone was damaged. An investigation supposedly led officers with the Manchester Police Department to the two men — ages 20 and 21 — who are currently charged with the assault of the victims. Both men face charges of assault in the second degree. The 20-year-old also faces additional charges in connection with the alleged theft and damage.

The first task of each man’s criminal defense counsel will most likely be to ensure that each of his rights was protected throughout the investigation into this incident. In addition, all of the evidence gathered by investigators that supposedly indicates that these two men are guilty of the assault will need to be reviewed. After those tasks are complete, the parties can begin formulating a defense to the charges; the same would be the case for anyone here in Derry facing similar charges.
