Two people arrested for drug crimes deserves a criminal defense

Most Derry residents are aware that if they are arrested, they have the right to legal counsel. The Miranda warning that is supposed to be given to every person accused of and arrested for a crime even states that the individual has the right to a criminal defense attorney. This stresses the importance of being represented during such a trying and frightening time for the individual that is accused.

Many people do not understand their rights and might not be able to determine whether officials violated them prior to or during their arrest. For instance, a man and a woman were recently arrested on drug crimes as the result of an investigation that lasted approximately two months conducted by local police in their area. The investigation began after police received numerous complaints of alleged drug use in the neighborhood.

Detectives with the Salem Police Department began surveillance of the home about which the allegations were made. Allegedly, detectives witnessed a drug transaction made by a woman in a vehicle that pulled into the home’s driveway. The 44-year-old man and 27-year-old woman supposedly involved in this transaction were both arrested. Officials claimed to have seized approximately $450 and nine grams of heroin.

Each person faces several counts of drug crimes. As would be the case for any Derry resident in a similar position, one of the first things each person’s criminal defense team will more than likely do is review the investigation to determine whether it was conducted in accordance with state law and established policies and procedures. Thereafter, all defensive options can be explored to decide the course of action that will be most beneficial to each of them.
